Rescuers spend hours trying to untangle cow stuck in Georgia fence, photo shows
Three Georgia deputies were heading home after a long night’s shift when they spotted something.
It was a cow, debilitated and tangled in a fence, according to the Pickens County Sheriff’s Office. It wasn’t the deputies’ normal on-the-job calling, but they pulled over to help free the cow.
In addition to the reason a cow may be on the ground and unable to stand, experts from Norbrook Laboratories and Michigan State University report that severe damage could occur to the cow’s muscles, joints and nerves if it is down for too long.
Luckily, the deputies were able to untangle the cow after several hours of wrestling with the fence. The sheriff’s department didn’t disclose the condition of the cow when it was freed.
“We’re thankful to have deputies who go above and beyond no matter the situation!” the sheriff’s office said on Facebook.
Dozens of people reached out online to thank the trio that stopped to help the cow.
“Your service to the county crosses all lines, concern for humans but concern for animals as well. Most (Pickens County residents) love animals...Thank you so much,” one person commented.
Pickens County is about 60 miles north of Atlanta.
