Grenade discovered among donations prompts evacuation of thrift store, Oregon cops say

A grenade found among donations to an Oregon thrift store prompted an evacuation and shutdown of nearby streets, police said.

Workers at St. Vincent de Paul in Junction City discovered the grenade, which appeared to be live, at 11:15 a.m. Pacific time Saturday, Feb. 12, police said in a news release.

The grenade was found inside a box with other donations, police said.

Police evacuated the store and and closed nearby streets while a bomb squad from the nearby Eugene Police Department responded.

A bomb squad x-ray of the grenade showed it did not appear to have a detonator cap. The squad secured the grenade, which will be safely destroyed, police said.

Junction City is a city of about 5,000 people north of Eugene in central Oregon.
