When 55-year-old Lori Huffines scratched off her $5 lottery ticket, she said she had to double check and make sure she wasn’t seeing things.

Huffines, an office manager from Greensboro, cleaned her glasses, she told officials, and the lucky win was confirmed. She had won $200,000.

“I started scratching and when I saw it I was like, ‘Oh my gosh, oh my gosh,’” Huffines told NC Education Lottery officials. “I was in shock.”

Huffines picked up her Bonus Bucks ticket from Sheetz on Spring Garden Street, according to officials. She had won one of six top prizes in the game.

After state and federal tax withholding, Huffines took home $142,021 on Wednesday, Feb. 16.

“Things always happen when you least expect it,” she told lottery officials. “I’ve been wanting to purchase a house so this will help make that happen.”
