When Robin Meador realized how much she had won in the Virginia Lottery, she didn’t tell anybody right away. Any human, that is.

“Everyone else was asleep,” she told lottery officials. “So I had no one to share it with except my cat!”

Meador’s jackpot ticket could help her buy cat food for all nine lives — she was looking at a $386,239 win.

The Botetourt County resident played the Cash 5 with EZ Match game on a whim and didn’t leave her home to do so, according to lottery officials.

Meador bought a ticket online, let the computer pick random numbers, and ended up matching all five numbers in the Feb. 21 drawing. Her winning numbers were 6-9-15-23-33, lottery officials said.

The odds of matching all five numbers and winning the jackpot are 1 in 749,398, according to the Virginia Lottery.

Many people can gamble or play games of chance without harm. However, for some, gambling is an addiction that can ruin lives and families.

If you or a loved one shows signs of gambling addiction, you can seek help by calling the national gambling hotline at 1-800-522-4700 or visiting the National Council on Problem Gambling website.
