73-year-old’s decomposed body found encased in concrete in bathtub, Hawaii police say
A 73-year-old man’s decomposed body was found in concrete in a bathtub in Hawaii, according to police and multiple news outlets.
Two men accused of the killing were arrested in Los Angeles County on Wednesday, March 9, the Honolulu Police Department said in a news release.
Juan Tejedor Baron, 23, was trying to flee to Mexico when Los Angeles police and U.S. Marshals found him hidden in a crawl space under a Greyhound bus bench in Anaheim, police said.
Scott Hannon, 34, was arrested more than an hour later in Inglewood. Police said their charges are pending but the two were initially wanted on second-degree murder charges.
The 73-year-old’s body was discovered when police went to the man’s home in Honolulu on Monday, March 7, to conduct a welfare check and later filed a missing person report, police and KITV reported.
Baron told police he was in a relationship with the man and lived at his home, police said.
He let detectives search the home, police said, and they found a bathtub filled with concrete.
Police found the man’s body encased in the concrete after questioning and releasing Baron and Hannon, KHON-TV reported. It’s unclear how they traveled to California from Hawaii.
“The smell of the decomposition was when we started to chip away at the tub,” Honolulu Police Department Lt. Deena Thoemmes told the news outlet.
