Mattress flies off truck and causes crash that kills 20-year-old, Washington cops say
A mattress that flew off a pickup truck onto Interstate 5 in Washington resulted in a crash that killed a 20-year-old woman, state patrol officers said.
The woman hit the mattress Saturday, March 12, near Mountlake Terrace, then lost control of her car, Trooper Jacob Kennett said in a series of Twitter posts.
A semi truck hit the woman’s silver Nissan sedan on the driver’s side as it swerved across the highway, killing her, at 6:38 a.m., MyEdmondsNews reported.
Yohana M. Ayele, of Edmonds, died at the scene, the Washington State Patrol told The Seattle Times. The crash closed Interstate 5 for several hours.
State police are seeking the driver of the pickup truck, described as a small, older, dark-colored vehicle with wood-sided bed racks carrying miscellaneous household items, Kennett wrote.
They ask that anyone with information contact Washington State Patrol at 360-654-1204.
Mountlake Terrace is a city of 21,000 people in Snohomish County north of Seattle.
