Car stuck on tracks hit by train. Only the passenger made it out in time, GA cops say
An early morning drive ended tragically after a ride-share car got stuck on train tracks in Georgia.
Only the passenger got out in time, police said.
On March 17, officers responded to a call at about 5:30 a.m. after a train hit a car that was on the tracks, Ted Sadowski, public information officer at the Duluth Police Department, told McClatchy News.
A ride-share driver had a passenger in his vehicle when he got stuck on the tracks in Duluth, a city about 30 miles northeast of Atlanta.
Once the passenger noticed the train coming in their direction, they immediately left the car and told the driver to do the same, Sadowski said.
The driver remained in the car, attempting to get it unstuck. The vehicle was hit by the train and pushed for about 200 feet before crashing into a tree off the side of the tracks, Sadowski said.
By the time officers arrived at the scene, the driver had died, according to Sadowski.
Officers are keeping the driver’s identity private until relatives are notified.
By 7:30 a.m. the tracks were cleared, and the train was able to leave the area, Sadowski said.
