North Carolina native, lifelong Tar Heel basketball fan and country music superstar Eric Church has canceled a Texas concert in order to watch the NCAA Men’s Final Four, he announced in a message to fans on March 29.

Church is missing his April 2 tour date in San Antonio to watch North Carolina play rival Duke in the semifinals of the men’s NCAA tournament. He said seeing the game is a “sport’s enthusiast’s dream,” according to a personal message from Ticketmaster posted to social media by fans.

“This is also the most selfish thing I’ve ever asked the Choir to do,” the “Two Pink Lines” singer said, referencing his die-hard fanbase. “To give up your Saturday night plans with us so that I can have this moment with my family and sports community.”

The Appalachian State University alum — who cited a deep “passion” for both his fans and North Carolina’s basketball program — went on to quote the late beloved Tar Heels sports announcer, Woody Durham.

“Woody Durham always said, ‘Go where you go and do what you do,’ thanks for letting me go here and be with the Tar Heels,” he wrote of the historic matchup against Duke.

Fans anticipating the Saturday concert will receive a refund, the message said. However, some are still mourning their opportunity to go to “Church.”

“Not gonna lie, I’m pretty mad. Dude didn’t even reschedule,” wrote one frustrated fan.

Still, others admire Church’s loyalty to his team.

“Now that’s a real, committed fan,” wrote another user.
