Dad’s body was found in toolbox on Georgia roadside. Alabama cops announce arrest
Close to a month after a road crew in Georgia found a father’s body wrapped up inside a toolbox on the side of a rural road, a sheriff’s office in a neighboring state announced it has arrested a suspect.
The Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office in Alabama announced on Thursday, April 21, that a Centre man had been arrested in connection to the homicide of LaChancey Williams.
Williams was a 40-year-old father of five from Cedartown, Georgia, according to his obituary. His body was discovered on March 15.
Eric Hooper, 28, was taken into custody on April 14 and faces charges of murder and receiving stolen property, according to a Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office news release.
Hooper is being held on a $1.5 million bond, the sheriff’s office said.
Deputies also say they believe someone else may have information about the homicide.
Deputies are asking the public to help locate 38-year-old Nick Silvers of Cherokee County, according to the release. Silvers is considered a person of interest regarding the death of Williams and wanted for questioning, according to the sheriff’s office.
Williams’ body was first discovered along Esom Hill Road in Polk County, Georgia, McClatchy News reported.
A public works crew member opened an abandoned toolbox lying near the road and thought they were staring at a mannequin, until they realized the body of Williams was inside, McClatchy News reported.
The Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office asks anyone with information on the whereabouts of Silver to contact Chief Investigator Tony Monroy at 256-927-3365 or 256-557-5466, or submit information anonymously online at the sheriff’s website.
Cherokee County is about 87 miles northeast of Birmingham.
