A woman died after suffering a medical emergency during a family event at a south Georgia water park, according to news outlets.

Splash in the Boro closed on Thursday, June 23, after a 70-year-old woman drowned in the Lazy River just before 1 p.m., the Statesboro Herald reported, citing Bulloch County Coroner Jake Futch. The woman, identified as Pauline Harden, was visiting the park with relatives when she was found with her arms on a float “but her head in the water.”

It’s believed Harden went into cardiac arrest and drowned, WTOC reported. The water park is operated by the county, which released a statement about the incident.

“The Board of Commissioners is aware of an incident that occurred at Splash in the Boro Waterpark today,” community relations manager Broni Gainous told McClatchy News in a statement. “Out of respect for the family, we will not release any public information at this time.”

McClatchy News reached out to the Bulloch County Coroner’s Office on June 24 and was awaiting a response.

The water park re-opened to guests on June 24.

Statesboro is about 50 miles northwest of Savannah.
