Two people escaped a Kia Soul sinking into a San Diego Bay by swimming out an open window, California police reported.

They both swam to shore with minor injuries, Port of San Diego Harbor Police said in a news release.

Police arrested the 48-year-old driver on a drunken driving charge after the accident about 1 a.m. Sunday, July 31, the Times of San Diego reported.

The car veered into the bay from Harbor Island Drive, KNSD reported. A 22-year-old woman also was in the car.

A tow truck pulled the car from the ocean.

“This is a reminder of how dangerous it is to drink and drive,” police wrote. “Please drive safely and report any erratic driving behavior.”
