Kimberly McKay was alone on her couch in Virginia when she discovered she had a winning lottery ticket.

“I never win, but let me just check anyway,” she thought, according to Virginia lottery officials.

When McKay checked the winning numbers in the Virginia Lottery’s July 5 Cash 5 with EZ Match drawing, all five of her numbers matched, officials said. McKay, of Newport News, took home the $158,270 jackpot. She bought her ticket online at valottery.com and used family birthdays to pick 11-13-20-22-23 as her numbers.

McKay, who works as a bartender, said her winnings serve as an early 30th birthday present.

“It still feels unreal!’” she told lottery officials.

Cash 5 with EZ Match is a rolling jackpot that starts with a minimum of $100,000. The jackpot continues growing until a player matches all five numbers. The chances of winning the jackpot are 1 in 749,398.

Newport News is about 40 miles northwest of Virginia Beach.
