Fox News host Tucker Carlson sounded off against President Joe Biden’s student loan forgiveness plan, which would cancel up to $20,000 per borrower.

Biden announced the plan on Wednesday, Aug. 24, saying Americans who make less than $125,000 will be forgiven of $10,000 of their student loans. Those who went to college on Pell Grants will be deducted an additional $10,000.

Some have considered the loan forgiveness plan to be a “handout,” but the Fox News host took it a step further as he compared it to reparations.

“I didn’t claim that a degree in postcolonial liberation studies from Wesleyan would be worth anything. I didn’t take 80 grand a year from middle class families order to turn their children into Xanax-addicted robots with no job prospects.,” Carlson said on ‘Tucker Carlson Tonight’ Wednesday. “Well, no, you didn’t do any of that, but you’re paying reparations anyway. Wesleyan is not. Wesleyan is off the hook. They all are. They’ll pay nothing for the scam they perpetrated, though they’re a lot richer than you will ever be. No, you’re paying. It’s on you.”

He further said only “people who did something useful in college” should receive payback and not “anyone who supported (Black Lives Matter) riots.”

“Why would you send them money? Why would you send the fruits of America to people who hate America?” Carlson said. “What is that? It’s suicidal.”

There are 44 million Americans who have federal student loan debt, totaling $1.7 trillion, CNBC reported.

Thirty percent of American adults have some college debt, and as of 2021, the median amount that borrowers owed was between $20,000 and $24,999, according to the Federal Reserve.

Carlson’s Fox News colleague, Sean Hannity, also griped about the student loan forgiveness plan Wednesday. On his radio program, he called it a “reckless economic decision on every single level.”

“We have a lot of young people that work on my TV show, they’re not making a $125,000,” Hannity said. “They’re now eligible to get in some cases up to $20,000 and in other cases $10,000. This is New Green Deal radical socialism.”

Hannity said the plan will benefit the middle class, and the White House agreed. The Department of Education estimates 90% of relief money will go toward borrowers with an annual income of less than $75,000, McClatchy News reported.

Before Wednesday’s announcement, the Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris administration had already overseen $32 billion in student debt relief, according to the U.S. Department of Education.
