A woman was killed when the car she was driving flipped, slid into the middle of an interstate, and was struck by an oncoming tractor-trailer, according to the North Carolina Highway Patrol.

Amity Alyssa Plunkett, 30, of Greensboro was driving south on Interstate 85 in Trinity at around 2 a.m. on Sept. 29. Her car went off the road, struck a bridge abutment and flipped, according to a news release from the North Carolina Department of Public Safety State Highway Patrol.

Her vehicle slid and came to a stop in a center northbound lane, and a 22-year-old man driving a tractor-trailer was not able to stop or swerve around her vehicle, the release said.

The tractor-trailer struck the woman’s car, and she was pronounced dead on scene.

The driver of the tractor-trailer was not injured, according to the agency.

Trinity is about 100 miles west of Raleigh.

Plunkett’s uncle, Bobby Hebert, shared a photo of her on Facebook on Sept. 29.

“Heaven has gained another angel,” he wrote. “R.I.P. my loving niece…”

A Facebook user named Joe Joe also shared a photo of Plunkett on Facebook on Sept. 29 and called her a great person, friend and mom.

“You will forever be missed,” he wrote.

On her own Facebook page, Plunkett shared many photos and videos of her two young sons.

“Y’all .. I’m so in love with my little men,” she wrote on Jan. 11 along with a photo and video of her sons at a karate class. “It’s their first day today.”

On Sept. 27, she wrote, “Just want to say I’m very thankful. That is all.”
