Most evenings, Sandra McGuckin tries to unwind by playing Wordle and Virginia Lottery games online, she told lottery officials.

But a recent lottery game was anything but relaxing when McGuckin won a jackpot playing Prospector’s Gold, the Virginia Lottery said in an Oct. 18 news release.

“I was screaming like a lunatic!” she said. “My son and husband came running into the room!”

The Virginia Beach mom plans to use her $256,143 prize to pay off some bills and possibly buy a new car, she told officials.

The odds of winning any prize in the game are 1-in-4.73, Virginia lottery officials say.

Virginia Beach is about 200 miles northeast of Raleigh, North Carolina.

Many people can gamble or play games of chance without harm. However, for some, gambling is an addiction that can ruin lives and families.

If you or a loved one shows signs of gambling addiction, you can seek help by calling the national gambling hotline at 1-800-522-4700 or visiting the National Council on Problem Gambling website.
