Hit-and-run driver among two who struck pedestrian during fatal crash, Florida cops say

A hit-and-run driver is among two that struck a pedestrian, who later died of his injuries, a Florida sheriff’s office said.

A man was walking in the middle of a roadway in Tampa shortly after midnight on Nov. 12 when a Dodge Neon traveling southbound struck him, knocking him into the northbound traffic lanes, according to a Facebook post from the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office.

The Neon driver immediately pulled over, as did several other drivers who witnessed the crash, the sheriff’s office wrote.

But then a driver of an SUV came around the cars that had pulled over, striking the pedestrian again and dragging him a short distance, the post says.

The driver of the SUV did not stop and fled the scene.

Paramedics brought the pedestrian to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead, according to the sheriff’s office.

The sheriff’s office did not identify the pedestrian or anyone else involved.

Authorities are still looking for the driver of the SUV, which they believe to be an early 2000s silver Ford Explorer or Mercury Mountaineer.
