A driver was rescued after their vehicle crashed into Lake Erie, Ohio police say.

Mentor-on-the-Lake officers say police and fire units were called to Twilight Drive at about 8 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 25 after a car was spotted in Lake Erie.

The car had crashed through a guard rail at the end of the road and slid down the steep embankment before landing in the lake, according to a Facebook post from the department.

The car’s driver was outside of the vehicle in the water when rescuers arrived.

Fire and rescue units got the driver out of the water and transported them to Lake West Hospital, about 20 miles northeast of Cleveland.

Authorities did not release details about the cause of the crash or the condition of the driver.
