When a son in South Carolina spotted his father’s car in a convenience store parking lot, he stopped in to say hi. Little did he know, he would walk out $200,000 richer.
The son noticed his father at the MD Foodmart in Anderson and bought a ticket at the register when he stepped in to say hi, according to a Dec. 14 news release from the South Carolina lottery.
He bought a $5 Lady Luck ticket and won the top prize of $200,000, according to lottery officials.
“I was speechless,” the son said. “I got my dad’s attention to come and see. His eyes got big and his jaw dropped.”
The son’s first big purchase was a new car, he told lottery officials.
The odds of winning the top prize in Lady Luck are one in 750,000, according to lottery officials.
The convenience store that sold the lucky ticket received a $2,000 bonus, the South Carolina Education Lottery said.
Anderson is about 120 miles northwest of Columbia.
