Tractor-trailer flips and traps driver in crushed car for over an hour, SC cops say
A tractor-trailer flipped onto a sports car, trapping the driver inside for over an hour, South Carolina officials said.
Photos police shared with McClatchy News show the Ford Mustang was left pinned between the truck and the pavement after the crash Wednesday, Dec. 21.
The driver eventually was rescued from her crushed car and rushed to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, according to the Spartanburg Police Department.
Officers were called at about 2 p.m. to the intersection of East Blackstock Road and John B. White Sr. Boulevard, also called Reidville Road. While at the scene, police saw a tractor-trailer had turned onto its side.
The crash reportedly happened when the truck driver approached the intersection and tried to make a turn. The truck flipped, landing on a sports car that had stopped at a traffic light, police told McClatchy News in an email.
“The driver of the tractor-trailer was momentarily trapped, but not injured,” police wrote.
Meanwhile, the sports car driver was hurt and had trouble getting out from underneath the truck. First responders treated the driver remotely before she was pulled out and taken to the hospital.
The truck driver was cited after the incident, officials said.
