Jennifer Wanamaker bought special stocking stuffers for her husband and twin daughters this Christmas: Virginia lottery tickets.

The family of four from Chesterfield County decided that if any of their New Year’s Millionaire Raffle tickets won, they would share the prize, they told Virginia lottery officials, according to a Jan. 13 news release.

“If one person wins, we all win,” Patrick Wanamaker, Jennifer Wanamaker’s husband, told officials.

When the winning numbers were announced on New Year’s Day, the family learned that they did, in fact, have a lucky ticket worth $1 million, officials said.

The couple’s college-aged daughter, Caitlin Wanamaker, had gotten the winning ticket in her stocking.

“It’s surreal!” Caitlin Wanamaker told lottery officials. “It’s a great start to the new year!”

Chesterfield County is about 20 miles south of Richmond.
