Farmer’s ‘last-minute decision’ leads to $100,000 lottery win, NC officials say

During a stop at a convenience store in North Carolina, Agustin Perez Jr. made a last-minute choice to purchase “his lucky Millionaire Maker ticket.”

“I was about to walk out the door without buying the ticket,” he told state lottery officials.

Getting that ticket at the Dana Food Center in Hendersonville was a winning decision.

The 43-year-old farmer won big, securing the $100,000 prize. He said everyone else in the store began to celebrate with him when he realized he had won.

“We all just screamed and yelled,” he said.

That excitement grew when Perez realized he had won more than just a few dollars.

He said he “just kept seeing more and more zeroes.”

Perez collected his prize money Jan. 20, and says he hopes to use the money to bring his family from Mexico to the United States.
