Man tries to win lottery using same numbers for 4 years. It pays off twice — in 1 day
A man won a whopping $240,338 after he bought two Michigan Lottery tickets with the same numbers he’s been using for four years, officials said.
The 67-year-old Oakland County resident “bought two identical tickets for the Feb. 6 Fantasy 5 drawing,” according to a Feb. 27 news release by the Michigan Lottery.
The man’s matching tickets won with the numbers 04-10-12-20-30, each prize being $120,169, officials said.
The man bought the two tickets because he was headed out of town, according to the release.
“Every week I purchase a multi-draw Fantasy 5 ticket with the same set of numbers I have been playing for four years,” the man said in the release. “I was going out of town, so I bought a multi-draw ticket to cover the drawings while I was gone. There was some overlap on the drawings of the new ticket I had purchased and the multi-draw ticket I had purchased a few days prior.”
The man “couldn’t help but laugh” after finding out he was more than $200,000 richer, according to the release.
The 67-year-old went to lottery headquarters to claim his winnings and said he plans on putting the money toward his son’s education and then saving the rest, officials said.
Oakland County is about 30 miles northwest of downtown Detroit.
