Skydiver dangles from power lines after overshooting landing, California officials say

A skydiver slammed into power lines and became entangled after overshooting a Lake Elsinore landing field, California officials reported.

The solo skydiver was not electrocuted and was rescued with no serious injuries in the incident at 11:53 a.m. Monday, March 27, firefighters said on Twitter and news outlets reported.

“We heard a pop,” witness Eddie Guillen told KNBC. “We didn’t see anything at first, then saw her stuck up there. Then we saw her moving and thought, ‘Oh my gosh, she’s still alive.’”

The power lines were live, but Southern California Edison crews de-energized the lines before firefighters rescued the woman, KABC reported. The woman declined medical treatment.

“She basically overflew the entire airport,” Skydive Elsinore manager Josh Hall told the Los Angeles Times. “Luckily she’s fine; obviously it could have been a lot worse.”

The woman was making her first solo jump as part of an accelerated training program at the skydiving school, he told the publication.

Lake Elsinore is a city of 72,000 people about 75 miles southeast of Los Angeles.
