Family keeps buying lottery tickets from the same store – and wins big for fifth time
Winning the lottery, for most, is a once-in-a-lifetime experience.
But for one Maryland family, winning big is an old habit.
The Anne Arundel County family are seasoned professionals at winning on scratch-off tickets, having won big prizes four times in five years, lottery officials said in a July 10 release.
The mother of the family won $100,000 in 2019 and won $50,000 twice, once in 2017 and again in January, officials said.
Her son, who has been playing the lottery with his parents for years, won $50,000 in May when he bought a scratch-off from the same store that sold the winning tickets to his mother.
Now, his father gave it a try – and won again.
The 84-year-old grandfather was with his wife and son when he won the $100,000 prize in the Gold X50 Maryland lottery game.
“(My wife) turned to me and said ‘You won,’” the father told officials. “I was happy, but still a little shocked.”
The win is the fifth for the family, now totaling $350,000, officials said.
Knowing just what to do, his son scanned the instant ticket with his phone to confirm the win, officials said, and he joined his dad to go and collect the prize.
The grandpa said he will gift some of the money to his grandkids, but the rest will be spent on a new car and home improvements.
The $10 Gold X50 lottery scratch-off game still has six unclaimed $10,000 prizes and many more smaller payouts, officials said.
Anne Arundel County borders Baltimore. Its county seat is Annapolis.
