Car flips down stairs onto sidewalk before two flee, California video shows
A white car flips down an outdoor stairway before landing upside-down on the sidewalk of a San Francisco street in a dramatic YouTube video.
Onlookers rush to help free two people from the car, but the driver and passenger then dash back up the stairs and vanish, the video shows.
No one was hurt in the crash on Sanchez Street at 7:18 p.m. Saturday, July 22, the San Francisco Fire Department reported on Twitter.
Witnesses told firefighters, who oversaw the removal of the crashed car by a tow truck, that the occupants had fled, the agency said.
The car tumbled down the stairway after failing to stop at a dead end on Cumberland Street, KRON reported.
The video shows cars passing and people walking on Sanchez Street before a crunching sound can be heard and the car crashes through vegetation as it flips down the stairs and lands on the sidewalk below.
After a moment, witnesses rush to the overturned car, pulling open doors and helping the occupants out, the video shows. The two people then run up the stairs.
“They just walked away,” onlooker Aimee Barber told KTVU. “They (were) lucky as hell.”
San Francisco police ask that anyone with information on the crash call 415-575-4444, according to the station.
