3-year-old dies after propeller hits him in fall from boat, Utah officials say

A 3-year-old boy who fell from a boat died after being struck by the propeller, Utah officials reported.

Walter Greer was boating with his family from Salt Lake City when the fatal accident occurred at Echo State Park at 4:45 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 13, Utah State Parks officials said in a news release.

The child, who was wearing a life jacket, fell into the lake and was hit by the boat’s rear propeller, officials said. He died at the scene.

“This is just the last thing a family wants to see happen when they come to a state park or reservoir or anything like that,” Utah State Parks spokesperson Devan Chavez told KUTV.

An investigation into the incident continues, officials said. Echo State Park is about 30 miles northeast of Salt Lake City.
