Watch deer with sweet tooth wander into Washington candy shop. ‘We have a taffy thief’

A curious deer with a sweet tooth found its way into a candy shop in Washington, a video shows.

The animal made a quick stop in Buddy and Howie’s Candy Store on Aug. 26 in Ocean Shores, according to a Facebook post.

When owner Jennifer Strobel first saw the animal standing at the door, she tried to tell it “no.” But the deer cautiously wandered into the store anyway.

“Once he was inside, the only thing I could think of is that if he gets spooked this is going to be bad!” Strobel told McClatchy News by email.

So she tried to direct it toward the door. At the same time, the deer walked toward one of her employees, she said.

Eventually, the deer found its way back outside, taking a piece of buttered popcorn taffy with it.

“Ocean Shores police I think we have a taffy thief on our hands,” the candy store wrote in the post.

Despite the strange encounter, Strobel said it was “really a cool experience.”

A deer hasn’t been in the store before, but Strobel said a frog made an appearance a couple of days earlier.

Ocean Shores is about 70 miles west of Olympia.
