Everyone dreams of winning the lottery.

But one man got to see that dream become a reality when he made a snack stop at a Maryland Exxon.

Snacks in hand, he walked past a display case of scratch-off lottery tickets that caught his attention, he told lottery officials in a Sept. 21 release.

The 38-year-old Worcester County man likes the $10 games, so he bought an Ultimate Cash ticket and took it home to play as he watched TV, he told officials.

“When I saw the ‘treasure chest’ symbol, I knew I won,” the man said. “My dream of winning finally came true.”

Per the rules of the game, any player who reveals the treasure chest wins all the prizes of the game.

For the Maryland man, those prizes came to a total of $50,000.

Seeing the win, he kept his cool and waited until later that evening to share the big news with the rest of his family.

“I was so excited,” his wife told lottery officials. “I almost knocked him over with the hug I gave him.”

The father of three and restaurant cook told officials he will use the winnings for a new car, then spend the rest on his family.

There are five $50,000 prizes remaining in the game.

Worcester County is about 140 miles southwest of Baltimore on Maryland’s Eastern Shore.

Many people can gamble or play games of chance without harm. However, for some, gambling is an addiction that can ruin lives and families.

If you or a loved one shows signs of gambling addiction, you can seek help by calling the national gambling hotline at 1-800-522-4700 or visiting the National Council on Problem Gambling website.
