Screaming leads rescuers to injured person trapped on rock for 24 hours in New Hampshire
An injured man spent 24 hours trapped on a rock near a New Hampshire waterfall, rescuers said.
His calls for help saved him.
At about 10:45 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 8, a person heard someone screaming across the river at Livermore Falls in Campton, the Campton-Thornton Fire Rescue said in a Facebook post.
Rescuers rushed to the area and found a man trapped on a rock with a leg injury.
Fire officials said he had been picking up trash along the river when he fell and crawled up the rock. He was there for 24 hours.
Fire crews used a roping system to reach him and evaluate his injuries, officials said.
Then they helped him down to a boat and took him to a hospital.
Livermore Falls is a 25-foot waterfall with whitewater currents at the Pemigewasset River within Livermore Falls Recreation Area.
Visitors can walk less than a half-mile to see the falls. The area has a beach and picnic spot.
Campton is about 50 miles north of Concord.
