Hiker with ‘severe head injury’ crosses 2 canyons for help after fall, Idaho cops say
A hiker with a “severe head injury” trekked across two canyons to call for help in Idaho, deputies said.
Rescuers received an SOS message at about noon on Oct. 10 from Indigo Lake, the Idaho County Sheriff’s Office said in a Facebook post.
They found a hiker who said he had fallen off a cliff the night before and was knocked unconscious “for an unknown amount of time,” deputies said.
He found his pack and crossed two canyons so he could contact authorities at the lake, deputies said.
When rescuers reached him, he had a “severe head injury” and also injured both ankles, a knee and a hip.
A helicopter couldn’t be used because of weather conditions, so rescuers helped him walk four miles to a four-wheeler.
Indigo Lake is about 220 miles north of Boise.
