Baby otters born at Washington zoo weigh the same as 5 fun-size Snickers. See them

A mama otter in Washington welcomed her second litter, and the babies are doing “swimmingly,” the zoo said.

Mama otter Valkyrie had the two babies March 29, Woodland Park Zoo in Seattle said on Facebook.

“The first year is crucial for otter pups. Valkyrie was an attentive first-time mom to her pups and she’s demonstrating those maternal skills again for this new litter,” Erin Sullivan, an animal curator at the zoo said.

Pups are born blind and rely on their moms heavily during the first year of life, officials said.

They open their eyes around the one month mark.

Sullivan said the babies have full bellies, a “sign they’re nursing” and receiving maternal care.

During the babies’ checkup, personnel confirmed the “teeny pups” are weighing in at 10 ounces apiece, the size of five fun-size Snickers bars, officials said.

The babies’ dad, Ziggy, age 9, is currently separated from his family while the pups adjust, the zoo said.

Valkyrie and her babies are in a climate-controlled, off-view den so they can be nursed for the next few weeks in a quiet area, officials said.
