A Michigan woman said she couldn’t fall back to sleep after waking up in the middle of the night to find out she had won the lottery.

Mary Edwards bought a “Lucky for Life” lottery ticket at a bakery in Adrian, according to a news release from the Michigan Lottery.

“I play Lucky for Life here and there,” Edwards told lottery officials. “The night of the drawing, I fell asleep early and then woke up at 1:30 a.m., so I decided to check my ticket.”

Edwards saw she matched the five numbers on her ticket.

“I kept repeating to myself: ‘No way,’” she said.

Edwards won $25,000 a year for life.

“I woke my daughter up and showed her the ticket and the winning numbers. When she looked both over and realized what I’d won, her jaw hit the floor. I had a hard time falling back asleep that night because I was so excited. I feel so grateful for this win.” the 69-year-old Edwards said.

Edwards chose to receive a one-time lump sum payment of $390,000, rather than yearly payments of $25,000. She said she plans to make some home improvements and save the rest.

Adrian is a 75-mile drive southwest from Detroit.
