Long-time lottery player buys ticket to soothe ‘itchy palm’ — and wins big in Maryland
An old superstition says if someone has an itchy palm, money may be headed their way.
Others believe it’s a sign of greed.
One woman believes in the latter, and her superstition seemed to prove her right. Her itchy palm led her to buy a lottery game that won her $50,000, the Maryland Lottery said in July 9 news release.
The long-time lottery player bought a $5 Lots of Cash scratch-off from the Baltimore Service Center, lottery officials said.
She then saw a big prize on the ticket.
“When I saw the $50,000 match, I was sure it was fake. There’s no way it could be real,” she told lottery officials.
But her prize was real, and the cashier who scanned her ticket, urged her to rush home with it, lottery officials said.
The Baltimore city worker is still in shock and hasn’t made plans to spend the prize money yet, officials said.
