Rather than grab a coffee or go for a walk before a meeting, a Missouri woman decided to test her luck.

“I was killing time,” the woman told officials. “I had a meeting to go to and was early…”

She made a pit stop at a convenience store in Cameron and purchased a crossword scratch-off ticket.

When she scratched off the ticket, she was in for a surprise. She had won $100,000, Missouri lottery officials said in a July 11 news release.

“It was a surprise, to say the least,” the winner said. “It was a wonderful surprise.”

She won the first of seven top prizes in the Missouri Lottery’s “20X Crossword” game, according to officials.

Cameron is about a 50-mile drive northeast from Kansas City.

Many people can gamble or play games of chance without harm. However, for some, gambling is an addiction that can ruin lives and families.

If you or a loved one shows signs of gambling addiction, you can seek help by calling the national gambling hotline at 1-800-522-4700 or visiting the National Council on Problem Gambling website.
