A 75-year-old man who fell 100 feet off a rocky cliff into a dry creek bed prompted a helicopter rescue, California police reported.

The man plunged over the cliff sometime after 8:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 10, San Jose police said in a news release.

Deputies with the Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office found the man at about 4 p.m., police said. He was seriously injured and trapped at the bottom of the cliff.

A police helicopter arrived to assist and lowered an officer on a line, officials said.

The helicopter airlifted the injured man to a landing area, where he was transferred to a second helicopter to be taken to a hospital, police said.

Police did not provide information on the man’s medical condition.

San Jose is about a 50-mile drive southeast from San Francisco.
