Dad sees customer buy lottery tickets. He snags the same game and wins big in Maryland
A dad bought lottery tickets on a whim after seeing another person buy some at a liquor store in Maryland.
He ended up winning $50,000.
The lucky player stopped at Selma’s Liquors in Baltimore after work one day, the Maryland Lottery said in an Aug. 16 news release.
He bought some lottery tickets and was ready to go on his way when he saw another customer buy four of The Big Spin scratch tickets, lottery officials said.
That’s when he decided he’d try the game.
Lottery officials said he bought two $5 tickets and scratched off the “prize check area” and scanned them with a barcode.
“The first one wasn’t a winner,” he told lottery officials. “But the second one said, ‘Congratulations, $50,000 winner.’”
An employee confirmed his win, and he called his wife.
“You’re rich,” he told her.
The man told lottery officials he has yet to decide how to spend his winnings.
