A wreck spotted hours after Utah officers responded to an earlier crash contained the driver’s body, officials reported.

A Chevrolet pickup truck crashed on a state highway near Kaysville at about 1:30 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 21, the Utah Department of Public Safety said in a news release.

The Chevrolet, which rolled over, was then hit by a Ford pickup truck, officials said. The Ford continued another 1,000 feet before crashing through a fence off the highway.

The crash shorted out the Ford’s electrical systems, officials said.

Officers, firefighters and others responding to the crash found only the Chevrolet and took the driver to a hospital, officials said. They did not see the Ford in the dark.

At 6:30 a.m., a commuter traveling on the highway spotted the wrecked Ford pickup truck and notified authorities, officials said.

The body of the driver was found in the crashed truck, officials said. They did not indicate when the individual died.

Kaysville is about a 25-mile drive north from Salt Lake City.
