Powerball player just misses $163 million jackpot in Virginia, but still wins big
A Virginia lottery player was a number shy of the Powerball jackpot — but still walked away a big winner.
Someone won $1 million after matching five numbers but not the Powerball in the drawing Monday, Sept. 16, just missing the estimated $163 million jackpot, results show.
The lucky ticket was purchased online by a Vienna resident, the Virginia Lottery told McClatchy News.
The winning numbers were 8, 9, 11, 27, 31 and red Powerball 17, according to the lottery game’s website. The Power Play multiplier option was 5x.
There was another $1 million winner in Arkansas, and someone in Texas snagged a $2 million prize on a ticket matching five numbers with the Power Play multiplier, results show.
No one won the game’s grand prize, however, pushing the jackpot to an estimated $176 million.
The next Powerball drawing is Wednesday, Sept. 18.
Vienna is about a 20-mile drive west from Washington, D.C.
