Lottery player didn’t think luck could ‘strike twice.’ Then her mom won in Maryland

A great-grandma’s win marked the second time lottery luck visited a family in Maryland, officials said.

The woman’s daughter didn’t think luck “could strike twice” so when she learned her mom had won $50,000 with a Ca$h Plu$ ticket, she “couldn’t believe her ears,” according to an Oct. 7 news release by the Maryland Lottery.

“She was like, ‘Mom, stop lying,’” the recent winner told lottery officials.

The woman’s daughter had won $100,000 in 2021, officials said.

The winner, who has a strategy of playing new games, bought scratchers in Baltimore and learned she’d won $50, officials said.

After scratching her last ticket, she learned of her $50,000 win, the lottery said.

The woman “held back her excitement” until she scanned the ticket to confirm the prize, officials said.

The winner doesn’t have any current plans for the money but “wanted to get the check in hand before considering her options,” officials said.

This win means there are five $50,000 prizes left to be claimed in the game, officials said.
