Kangaroo escapes after close bear encounter — and is on the run, Florida sheriff says
A kangaroo is on the run in Florida after surviving a close bear encounter, officials said.
Volusia County Sheriff Mike Chitwood took to social media to share a photo of a kangaroo hopping along the side of a road in Pierson, about a 55-mile drive north of Orlando.
“Just when you think you’ve seen it all,” the sheriff said in an Oct. 17 post on Facebook. “Pierson is hopping tonight.”
Chitwood, who’s been the Volusia County sheriff for about eight years, later shared an update on his post about where the kangaroo came from.
The kangaroo escaped its enclosure after a bear entered it, he said.
As of Oct. 18, there are no updates on the kangaroo’s location, but deputies have been in contact with the owner, the sheriff said.
Several people commented on the sheriff’s post.
“Oh poor baby! I hope they find her/him,” one person commented.
“Oh good heavens we have bears chasing away kangaroos? I live in Central Florida still right?” another person said.
