The cries of a 3-week-old kitten could be heard coming from a storm drain at a Texas university campus.

Her loud meows got people’s attention at Lamar University in Beaumont, and “urgent calls” were made to Beaumont Animal Care, the shelter said in an Oct. 19 Facebook post. Shelter workers quickly arrived to aid the trapped kitten.

When attempts to lure the tiny kitten out of the drain with food failed, a shelter worker decided to crawl down into the drain.

A video posted by the shelter shows the worker crawling out of the tight space with a kitten held tightly in her hand.

The shelter said the kitten is being bottle fed until she can eat on her own. She is currently in foster care.

Though the kitten is not yet ready to be adopted, the shelter is accepting applications.

Beaumont is about an 85-mile drive northeast from Houston.
