Mom’s intuition leads to lucky lottery ticket in Maryland. ‘Win this big seemed crazy’
A Maryland woman’s luck is unmatched.
So much so that her daughter considers her “not just the luckiest person she has ever met, but the luckiest she’s ever heard of,” Maryland Lottery officials said in an Oct. 18 news release.
“Games, contests or raffles, she’s won them all,” lottery officials said.
At one point, the pair decided to play lottery games to test the woman’s luck.
The mother-daughter duo go to the store together, but the mother “always picks the tickets,” officials said.
Though they’ve taken home a number of wins, they limit themselves by following a simple rule: “Don’t go to the well too often,” officials said.
“We don’t push our luck,” the daughter told lottery officials. “We only play once or twice a month, only when Mom tells me it feels right.”
That feeling came again on Friday, Oct. 11.
“She called me that morning and asked if I wanted to get a few tickets,” the daughter told lottery officials.
The daughter picked up her mother after work, and the pair headed to a Baltimore convenience store.
“I drove; she picked out the tickets,” which included a $10 Money Rush ticket, lottery officials said.
As the daughter scratched the ticket she “wasn’t sure what she was seeing,” lottery officials said.
“It looked like a big winner, but even with our luck, a win this big seemed crazy,” the daughter told lottery officials.
Then, her mother snatched the ticket and smiled.
“She looked at me and said, ‘We just won $50,000,’” the daughter told lottery officials.
Money Rush features top prizes of $100,000 and second-tier prizes of $50,000. Six prizes in each tier remain, lottery officials said.
