Lottery player wins life-changing prize at Florida Publix. Where was the ticket sold?
A $5 lottery ticket sold at a Publix in Florida turned into a $1 million jackpot prize.
The lucky player, identified as Anna Newson, bought her Loteria Grande scratch-off ticket at a grocery store in Jacksonville, the Florida Lottery said in an Oct. 25 news release.
Newson beat the 1-in-3,035,560 odds to win one of six top prizes in the game, according to lottery officials. Only two jackpots remain in the game, which launched in April, records show.
The 62-year-old Duval County resident claimed her windfall at lottery headquarters in Tallahassee, opting for a one-time payment of $640,000, the Florida Lottery said.
The Publix on Merrill Road received a $2,000 commission for selling the ticket, lottery officials said.
