Woman checks lottery numbers at ‘series of stoplights,’ realizes she won big in VA
Throughout a “series of stoplights,” a Virginia teacher discovered she’d won a huge lottery jackpot, officials said.
Lisa Eichinger matched five winning numbers to win a $1.5 million jackpot prize from a Cash 5 with EZ Match ticket, the Virginia Lottery said in a Nov. 4 news release.
“I feel like I’m dreaming,” Eichinger said in the release. “I’m just letting it sink in.”
She told lottery officials she pulled her ticket out at a stoplight and saw she had matched the first number, but the light turned green before she could check the rest.
At the next stoplight, she checked another number and saw it also matched.
After three more stops — checking the numbers one by one — Eichinger discovered she’d matched them all, she said.
Lottery officials said the lucky ticket was purchased at an Evergreen Liberty gas station in Haymarket, about a 37-mile drive southwest from Washington, D.C. The retailer was awarded a $10,000 bonus for selling the winning ticket, according to the release.
The winning numbers in the Sept. 30 drawing were 6, 20, 32, 36 and 43, the lottery said. The odds of winning the jackpot are 1 in 1,221,759.
Each Cash 5 play costs $1, and EZ Match tickets are an extra $1 per play, officials said.
