Man kidnaps, sexually assaults woman he met through acquaintances, California cops say
A man accused of kidnapping and sexually assaulting a woman he met days earlier was arrested after a police chase, California authorities say.
A woman contacted Fullerton police Dec. 11 to report that an armed man had kidnapped her from Fullerton and physically and sexually assaulted her, the Fullerton Police Department said in a Dec. 17 news release posted on X, formerly known as Twitter.
The woman told police she met the man through mutual acquaintances a few days earlier.
Through investigation, police said detectives identified the suspect as a 30-year-old Los Angeles man and got a warrant for his arrest.
Officials with the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Orange County Violent Crime Task Force found the man in the Los Angeles County area the evening of Monday, Dec. 16, according to police.
To apprehend him, officials requested help from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Aero Bureau and the California Highway Patrol, police said.
When officers contacted the suspect, he fled in his car and led them on a chase, which ended when he hit a pole in Torrance, police said.
After crashing, the man ran from his car, police said, but officers apprehended him.
The man had several firearms with him when he was arrested, police said.
McClatchy News reached out to the Orange County District Attorney’s Office and is awaiting a response on formal charges.
An investigation is ongoing, police said.
