A caretaker was left with a huge win after taking some much needed advice, Maryland Lottery officials said.

A woman’s patient and longtime friend told her she had a “lucky feeling” about a certain lottery retailer, and she was right, according to a Dec. 27 news release by the Maryland Lottery.

The Charles County resident had no idea the Keno ticket she’d buy would come with a prize of $48,108, officials said.

“I’m very close to the person I take care of,” the woman told officials. “I’ve known her my entire life. She felt lucky about Keno, but only from a certain lottery store – the Bridge Drive Inn.”

After going to the Prince Frederick store to buy the ticket, the woman didn’t know which numbers to use on her ticket, officials said.

“My friend was napping so I didn’t want to call her,” she told officials.

That’s when she decided to call her mom, who suggested she play family birthdays.

“Everyone in the family is close to her, so that sounded like the right move,” the lucky woman told lottery officials.

Later that day, she sent a photo of the 10-spot, 20 draw Keno ticket to her mother and asked for her to check it, officials said.

“When she called me she was out of breath, I thought something terrible had happened,” she told officials. “I didn’t believe it when she told me how much I’d won. I still don’t, in fact.”

Prince Frederick is about a 60-mile drive south of Baltimore.

Many people can gamble or play games of chance without harm. However, for some, gambling is an addiction that can ruin lives and families.

If you or a loved one shows signs of gambling addiction, you can seek help by calling the national gambling hotline at 1-800-522-4700 or visiting the National Council on Problem Gambling website.
