A risky food delivery to an ice fisher sent a driver into an icy lake, Wisconsin deputies said.

The driver drove his van onto Shawano Lake where the fisher was located, Shawano County deputies said in a Jan. 7 news release. The white van went through the ice, a photo taken by a person nearby and shared by the sheriff’s office shows.

The driver, who was the only person in the vehicle, exited the van and left the scene, deputies said. He was later located by emergency responders and taken to the hospital for evaluation, according to the sheriff’s office.

When released, the driver was arrested on an “unrelated matter,” deputies said. A local towing company and the fire department were tasked with removing the van from the lake.

Shawano is about a 40-mile drive northwest from Green Bay.
