Lottery player with ‘a lot of grandbabies’ has fun plans for the family after big win
A lottery player can finally take all of his grandchildren out for a fun weekend at a waterpark thanks to his big win in Maryland.
The grandfather won $75,227 playing his favorite computer-animated horse racing game Racetrax, lottery officials said.
“I’ve got 10 grandbabies. That’s a lot of grandbabies,” he told officials Jan. 13 when he claimed his prize at the lottery’s Baltimore headquarters.
He wants to take all 10 to an indoor waterpark and resort in Perryville for a weekend after he took two of them to Great Wolf Lodge a few years back.
“I think I had more fun than they did!” he said in a news release.
The winner from Owings Mills has played Racetrax “for a long time and has scored other substantial wins in the past,” officials said.
He usually will also play Pick 5 using his license plate number on five $1 straight bet tickets.
“He plays the same combination five times for each draw for the same reason he plays the long-odds, high-payoff horses in Racetrax: ‘If I’m going to pay money, I want money,’” he told officials.
He won this Racetrax game by playing the 12, 7, 2 and 11 horses for “a $1 Superfecta bet per race for 10 races,” officials said. His horses placed in order in the first race.
He says he’ll keep playing lottery games, especially Pick 5.
“I’d like to hit that five digit (number) just once,” he said, per the release.
A win would pay $250,000, but he “doesn’t spend any time worrying about it,” officials said.
“If it was meant for me, I’m going to win,” he told officials.
Owings Mills is about a 20-mile drive northwest from Baltimore.
