A Michigan lottery club is rejoicing after a huge jackpot win.

The three members began playing together years ago, according to a Feb. 24 news release from the Michigan Lottery.

The Lotto 47 ticket was bought in Grand Rapids for the Nov. 27 drawing.

“The night of the drawing, I checked the numbers around 10 p.m. and realized we had won. At first, I text the other club members and then thought I should give them a call so they knew I wasn’t just playing a trick on them,” a club representative told lottery officials.

The trio won the $2.8 million jackpot.

“We have known each other for many years but formed a lottery club just two years ago. It’s a really amazing feeling to hit a huge jackpot like this together,” the representative said.

The club members chose to receive the prize as a one-time lump sum of about $2 million. Each member received about $475,000 after taxes.

“The only thing better than winning a Lotto 47 jackpot is winning it with your friends,” Lottery Commissioner Suzanna Shkreli said.

The members said they plan to pay bills and save for an earlier retirement, the lottery said.

Many people can gamble or play games of chance without harm. However, for some, gambling is an addiction that can ruin lives and families.

If you or a loved one shows signs of gambling addiction, you can seek help by calling the national gambling hotline at 1-800-522-4700 or visiting the National Council on Problem Gambling website.
