Man tried pulling girl into car just before his arrest on DUI charge, MD cops say
A Maryland state trooper pulled a man over and arrested him on a DUI charge, suspecting he was impaired. Then, law enforcement learned that shortly before the traffic stop April 30, he nearly kidnapped a girl in the area, according to Maryland State Police.
Now, Gary Lee Plummer, 55, of Walkersville, is facing charges of attempted child abduction, attempted kidnapping, two counts of second-degree assault and driving under the influence, state police said in an April 30 news release.
Attorney information for Plummer wasn’t immediately available.
During the traffic stop along the Woodsboro Pike, a highway in a residential area of Walkersville, at about 3 p.m., the state trooper “observed signs of impairment” and took Plummer into custody, according to police.
Later that same day, a child abduction attempt involving Plummer was reported to police, authorities said.
Two girls told police Plummer “accosted them while walking in the same area prior to the traffic stop,” state police said in the release.
He also tried to pull one of the girls into his car but was unable to, according to police.
The investigation into Plummer, who was detained at the Frederick County Adult Detention Center, is ongoing, authorities said.
Maryland State Police are urging anyone who might have information on Plummer to call the agency’s Frederick Barrack at 301-600-4151.
Walkersville, Frederick County, is about a 50-mile drive northwest from Baltimore.
